I do not think so, when I installed the Chaletos 14.4 every thing installed
perfect with no errors.

Maybe it's the usb stick I'm using. And how I'm formatting it and installing
it. I will burn a DVD and try that to see if I get any errors.

Because I never had that many errors from synaptic. Yes the one about
chrome/winusb/ubuntu tweak but now I do not get that from UT.

So I will be back LOL

OK now I have it installed by DVD and I have ubuntu tweak installed and chrome, and now all
the errors I get are:

W: http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/Release.gpg: Signature by key 4CCA1EAF950CEE4AB83976DCA040830F7FAC5991 uses weak digest algorithm (SHA1)

I'm going to try ubuntu mini with xubuntu and install winusb to see what happens.

Well it's not Chaletos 16.4 for sure.
All 16.4 comes up with the same errors.
I guess I will have to use w7 to install
Ws to usb.

Hate w's.
But I think I can life with that.

They have their own partition. When I'm in linux all stuff stays in there I can transfer from linux to w's.
So when I reinstall the other partition is left alone if that is
what you mean?

How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16 - Page 2 Empty Re: How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16

Post by Dai_trying Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:50 am

I would guess this is the problem
Code:
Err:13 http://ppa.launchpad.net/colingille/freshlight/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
404 Not Found
It looks like the package maintainer doesn't have the correct  "Packages" file in the ppa for amd64, but I can't figure out how it works for ChaletOs 14 (unless that is 32bit?) I've only recently started using it so I have the current one installed.
I thought I would also mention that a lot of iso's nowadays are hybrid so can be installed to usb by simply typing
Code:
sudo cp /path/to/iso/filename.iso /dev/sd?; sync
replacing sd? with your usb id. I know it doesn't always work as sometimes some iso's do not contain boot stuff, but I usually try that first and it worked for ChaletOs iso.

EDIT:
I just had a quick look on launchpad and I can't see any packages for "xenial" so I figure that is the issue.

actually This is how I burn iso's:

Code:
sudo bash
dd if=filename.iso of=/dev/sdx

replace /dev/sdx with device name.

I'd forgotten about this post and I'm sorry, I would have mentioned it earlier. This way writes image in dd mode which is more compatible than the iso mode that unetbootin does. Works very well and never goofs.

The problem is that dd is far more destructive than the cp way of doing thing (if something goes wrong) but both usually work ok.
And to say dd never goofs is perhaps a little naive, for instance if there are block errors on your usb device, dd might goof with unpredictable results, but I'm nit-picking really, they will both do the job Smile

I meant it never goofs for me Wink

And if dd ever goofed up real bad I could always rewrite partition table or, if worse came to worse, DBAN the disk (but I dont know how to do that yet cuz I never had to).

It just basically copies the iso to the chosen device, but as usual it will wipe the current contents of the device.
