I used
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:colingille/freshlight
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install winusb

But it dose not work on Chaletos 16.

Although I'm using unetbootin but also like win2usb.

hi, if you installed in terminal did you get errors? Why don't you paste logs of terminal installation here. Sometimes the "fine print" suggests an error.

Then if you think it installed alright Do this: run "win2usb" in the terminal. Then you get logs and that includes error messages. Paste that here too. Then we can look at these terminal logs and determine the cause of the error. Thanks! Wink Very Happy

p.s. I have win2usb on my chalet 16 at home Smile

hmmm that looks like an internet-related problem where it is unable to grab info from the repository in order to get information on the download. Are you connected to a proxy? if you are maybe a SSL certificate problem is causing the hang.

Also you can download the program from https://sourceforge.net/projects/winusb/

Hope this helps! Wink Very Happy

How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16 Empty Re: How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16

Post by ooseven Thu May 19, 2016 6:50 am

I got it installed by way of
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
If universe is not included then modify the file so that it does.

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu vivid main universe
After any changes you should run this command to update your system.

sudo apt-get update

But it will not run.

Well what I did is went backwards in time and installed Chaletos 14.4.

I need what I need and now I have every thing I need,

Till this is fixed I can not mark it solved.
I believe it has some thing to do with Debian.
And they are picky of what one can install.

Have you ever tried fixing unetbootin? I have that working perfect on my chalet. I've found it to be fairly decent.

I have been using unetbootin for years but it does not like C16.
Hit and miss on windows and linux. When it does not work
I boot into windows and unetbootin works there.

How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16 Empty Re: How to install wintousb on Chaletos 16

Post by ooseven Thu May 19, 2016 10:49 pm

I know right......
But Chaletos 14.4 has every thing installed that I need.
I work on a few PC/laptops/smartphones/iphones
and I need to have these things.

I do believe it's the debian side that's doing the problem.
I always had the same problems with Debian.

Don't get me wrong it is strong and stable, but for me
I need certain things that Deb don't/won't let one do
without doing things that us norm peeps can do.

I do appreciate all the help you have given. Plus I do
like to stay updated/upgraded. But till some one jumps
in that knows or had to do it himself and explain in
detail I will have to stay behind.

When I had 15 installed it would let me install the
things I need but with errors that sudo apt-get -f install
would fix.
But then when I would refresh synaptic it would show
them.

P.S.
I screwed up my dual booted windows/linux yesterday after so many reinstalls of
distros LOL Not my 1st or 2nd time for that hahaha

Post by James Tobin Thu May 19, 2016 11:00 pm

you know I like debian core and chalet OS but I realize that its not for everyone. That's ok. I'd just recommend if you are going for redhat package manager you go with SUSE instead of the more-popular fedora/centos or mandriva. Those operating systems tend to be much less stable. I would say open SUSE is the only decent RPM linux.

Good luck! Wink Very Happy
