Slow Boot 8+minutes

Hi,
I am a total newbie and need a step-by-step process to reduce the boot time for Chalet OS.  The current boot time is over 8 minutes!

All help greatly appreciated.

to start please give us:

1. the amount of RAM you have
2. your CPU type

Thanks for the reply. I have 8Gb Ram and an i3 processor running Win 7 home premium. I'm running ChaletOS from a 1Tb usb hard disk.

for those specifications, that boot time is unacceptable!!

was this going on when you first installed Chalet OS?

if YES:
    make sure you have the latest Chalet OS 16.04.2
    re-install ChaletOS

if NO:
    open terminal program from menu
    type this code in:

sudo apt install bleachbit

Or find bleachbit from application center.
Then run bleachbit, select all under system and other system-related options, and click "clean". then reboot.

if this doesnt help then re-install, being sure you have the latest ChaletOS 16.04.2.

Waiting for bleachbit to wipe free disk space. How do I verify the version of ChaletOS?

I misinterpreted your post. Yes the system has been slow since installed. I downloaded ChaletOS again and placed on usb stick. I am in the process of reinstalling the OS now. I'll keep you posted.

I reinstalled ChaletOS on my external 1Tb usb hard drive. This resulted in the drive not booting and a prompt for grub rescue. This same installation seems to have scrambled the usb stick I was using to make the new install of the latest OS. I have now spent 1 hour recovering the 1Tb disk and salvaging the usb stick.

I will try one more time to install Chalet from a DVD and see how that goes.

Well, now my pc will not boot from the cd so I can't use Windows repair tool on the Win7 cd to repair the boot problem. I've double checked the BIOS and it is set to first boot from CD/DVD then the main hard disk. Still skips the CD/DVD and boots from the hard disk.
