How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
I am testing out the OS and I tried to make the taskbar vertical and on the left. However, instead of rotating all of the text on the taskbar so that it appears normal, the text was rotated as well. How can I make the taskbar look normal while vertical?

1. right click the panel.
2. chose panel > panel settings
3. chose tab "items"
4. click on "Window buttons"
5. Click the "properties" button under the remove button to the right
6. Uncheck "show button labels"

ok I must confess 2 things. First: I forgot that on new ChaletOS version it is "dockbar X" instead of "window buttons"
second: I slightly misunderstood your problem. While doing that operation should fix the appearance of window buttons, you also have an additional step on the panel settings: change display mode to vertical as shown in screenshot:

gah... I dont understand this new dockbar X I guess.
Try doing same to that "launcher" thing.
Excuse my stupidity, I'm really tired and I havent had chalet os latest version for a while, though I do have the earlier version.

Okay, so I was able to fix the "start button" using whisker menu. Now I still have an issue with the date/time and battery symbol being rotated

Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
yes, that was the first thing that I did before posting the question so that it will be vertical.

No, mines called date/time
Do you think that I should just install an earlier version so that I can have a vertical taskbar?

no, you can switch to the old xfce4 panel with xfce panel switch, an application available on your start menu.
Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
These are the options , and none of them display a vertical taskbar properly

Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
need to change taskbar to icon specific by going to window list / launcher settings
Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
I still have an issue with the date / time being sideways. Also, now there are buttons that open applications (in my case, firefox, settings, file manager, and search) and buttons that show what is already opened. How can I join them?

that's the downside of the old panel
Try going back to Dockbar X, then look and see if there is another clock applet available. If there isn't than I don't know what to do.
Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
Thing is I'm currently on Xubuntu which is extremely similar to Chalet OS but different set of applet defaults.
Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
It looks like the "Clock" applet is available if you click the Add (+) button. then remove your old clock.
Re: How to make the taskbar vertical and look normal?
Maybe I'll try Xubuntu. I'm looking for an easy distro to start out with. I am planning on testing out Zorin after this
