ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
This author placed ChaletOS on first of "Windows like Linux distros"
p.s. wonder what 16.10 will be like? Any roadmap somewhere?

wow... I"m super impressed and I am very glad that you are posting these updates for us. I really appreciate them.
Chalet OS tries to stick with LTS so there will be no 16.10. next LTS is 18.04, however there may be a chalet os 16.04.3/4/5/6/7/8... : -)

I'm surprised myself!
Thought the highest it would reach would be 50 at best.
Gave latest 16.10 Ubuntu Mate a spin today.
Is lightweight and very "talented" but ChaletOS is much "smoother".

Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
if you want a non-LTS it is possible to upgrade chalet os to a 16.10 core
Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
Hum... that's interesting.
Can you coach on that James?
Wouldn't want to miss out on the "chalet os 16.04.3/4/5/6/7/8... : -)" part though.

go to settings then choose software and updates. under "updates" beside "notify me of a new Ubuntu version" chose "for LTS or non-LTS" or "for all releases" forget exactly which, I'm on fedora at the moment.
Then, run in terminal:
This ensures that your software is fully updated before performing the upgrade. Then, after reboot performed by "sudo reboot", run
If this doesn't work, do it this way:
remember these 2 things before upgrading to a non-LTS version:
Then, run in terminal:
- Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo reboot
This ensures that your software is fully updated before performing the upgrade. Then, after reboot performed by "sudo reboot", run
- Code:
sudo do-release-upgrade
If this doesn't work, do it this way:
- Code:
sudo apt install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade
remember these 2 things before upgrading to a non-LTS version:
1. Non-LTS versoins are not as stable as LTS versions
2. Non-LTS versions go out of support very quickly, in only one year.

It worked!
Wasn't too sure about always saying "yes" throughout installation process though. After a cleanup job, reboot, everything seems like before.
Thanks again James!
p.s. Have tried Fedora in the past, not enthused.

Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
if you ever decide to retry fedora, do fedora cinnamon.
Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
incidentally, Fedora was my very first linux distro
Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
Think Ubuntu was my first followed be a close second for LinuxMint.
Oops, noticed ChaletOS went back to 40 on Distrowatch.
Time for a 16.04.03 ?

As I said before if Mint doesn't take seriously Chalet is going to steal Mint's rank definitely. It's just a matter of time. Time-Bomb, that is.

To beat LinuxMint might sound a bit pretentious but... not impossible!
Btw, have tried installing Fedora beta Cinnamon twice and all i get is a blurry screen. ChaletOS is better anyway.

fedora 24 cinnamon??? that version's better. that's the one you want. rock solid stable.
what I'm using at the moment
back to the subject, the way chaletOS is going, we will definitely beat Minux Lint unless they get smart really fast (spoonerizationalismeitiousnesseality intentionalistic)

Your next target rival of Win-like distro is Peppermint & KDE Neon.
Peppermint fans have boast too much about their win-like distro. They've lxde which is lighter than Xfce & pcmanfm which can avoid thunar 1.6.10 crashes unlike other xubuntu based distro. They even have whiskermenu that xfce users want. But there's one weakness about Lxde desktop that is... You can't right click auto arrange desktop icon like Xfce & Windows desktop.
KDE Neon start to gain back many old KDE users from that frustrated from KDE4 start menu & desktop fence awkwardness conbinations. Also from Xfce Thunar 1.6.10 crash crisis can cause some Win users on Linux drive to KDE Neon or Ubuntu Mate. If you're look at their KDE5 new start menu it's mostly close to W10 start menu without tiles. In fact, MS was stolen KDE5's new start menu layout. Sounds dramatic, eh?
ps. Just leave Xubuntu aside. ;P

Re: ChaletOS at no.39 on Distrowatch - momentum is still going!
peppermint's unpopular theme grabs on to everything about peppermint, but a gtk theme switch only changes some of it, which frustrates users. That's peppermint's biggest problem so far.
