leafpad as lightweight replacement for "notepad" and "wordpad"
The app leafpad works basically the same way notepad did and should work as a drop in substitute. Chaletos could even consider adding an alias or a symbolic link so typing "notepad" run's leafpad as right now it tries to load notepad from wine which sucks up alot of memory.
"sudo apt-get install leafpad" from a command line will do the trick.

hello famewolf
mousepad ships with chaletos. a simple text editor like notepad and leafpad. wordpad is different because it will save as .rtf.
you have discovered that the operating system knows the difference between notepad and leafpad and mousepad, so you may need to surrender to the computer on this one: the computer holds a definition of notepad as notepad; that you may need to accept. in a command line type mousepad, or, find mousepad in the accessories menu, or, setup a shortcut to your editor.
those three will save as .txt.
when you want to save as .rtf use wordpad, ted, librewriter, focuswriter, ....
.pdf too has applications for .pdf viewing and editing... I am trying using .html simplyhtml or seamonkey composer for .html to share with cross platform by browser using .htm where .rtf worked well.
leafpad is a good simple text editor. glad you found one you like. mousepad has had some changes lately... see how you like mousepad.
