stjerm as a lightweight yakuake like dropdown terminal
On my kde systems I'm a heavy yakuake user so I tried to find something similar for my older pc's that can't handle the weight of kde. I finally came across stjerm which isn't all that well known but is very lightweight. Add the right settings to the .Xdefaults file in your home directory and it fits the bill just fine.
Here's what it looks like:
Here's what you need to put in /home/[your username]/.Xdefaults
You can of course adjust the key being used as well as the font/font size
Here is stjerm.desktop that you can copy to /home/[your username]/Desktop or /usr/share/applications. If you want this to run every time you bootup then you need to go into "session and startup" under settings and add /usr/bin/stjerm (Description: Yakuake like terminal) as an entry to be ran on bootup after installing it with "sudo apt-get install stjerm" or via the gui installer.

stjerm.width: 90%
stjerm.border: thin
stjerm.scrollbar: right
stjerm.autohide: false
