Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
ok never mind, i figured it out. I was able to completely disable uefi and totally switch to legacy mode which fixed the problem.
Any way you can make your iso better for uefi boot? That is the default on many computers.

I had the precise same problem with a HP 2000-2c29WM. However, HP will NOT let you disable the EFI!!. The BIOS lets you enable Legacy, however, HP states in the BIOS, that EFI still has priority. which makes no sense at all. Solution: after trying everything except smashing the Laptop, I installed xubuntu, which installed just fine as designed.
The Bad part of the experience: It's a typical under powered HP Laptop owned by a friend whom I talked into installing ChaletOS to get a little better performance than what he was getting from Windows 8. After all the frustration ended, He served me CROW for lunch. LOL.

Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
yikes! now I'm scared to install linux on my dad's laptop if he ever decides to get it!
Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
LOL. Remember, as I stated, xubuntu installed just fine. That said, I think anyone wanting to install an Ubuntu Fork on a NEWER HP Computer, (Windows 8 and newer), should NOT attempt it using ChaletOS until the Developer figures out how to program it for UEFI. No offense or disrespect intended toward the Developer!!!

It's a Fork of xubuntu. However, I'm not a Tech Guy, nor am I a programmer. I'm not sure how it works. That said, I swear on my Cats Food Dish, that I installed xubuntu 16.04 x86_64 without a Glitch on the same computer.

Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
well I'll say that I had similar glitch on Toshiba with eeeeeew-bunt-eeeeeeew Unity and it did not bonk. However as I said i previously had Zorin OS on this acer and it never goofed during installation.
Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
I discovered approx. 5 yrs. ago that Zorin was/still is a "Train Wreck" LOL. I don't own a Laptop. Never have, never will. However, as a Hobby, I've worked on several. If people ask for a recommendation, I suggest Toshiba. IMO, it's the most non-restrictive of the OEM Machines to update the BIOS, Drivers, and Firmware if needed. Once, and only once, I started to work on an Acer. I needed to access the Mobo. That project ended as soon as I discovered the Mobo in that Acer was installed upside down. How ridiculous. I don't know, and didn't care to find out if that was standard procedure on all Acers or not. Oh Well.
Anyway, in my 9+ yrs of diddle-dickin around with Linux, nothing surprises me anymore. LOL. Over the yrs, I've fallen for the Hype of many New Distro's, only to fail at getting to 1st Base LOL. I've been on xubuntu, I think since 2010. It's what I've been putting Windows refuge's on. It's simple to operate, and they have a large enough Developer Base to pretty much do all of the necessary testing prior to release. I do really like ChaletOS, and will stick with it until the Developers Wife or G/F puts the Kabash to it LOL.
In conclusion, I'm done ranting LOL.
Stay Tuned,
Tom

Re: [ solved ] grub wont install!
I beg to disagree. My Toshiba gave me the worst time of all laptops when trying to access CMOS setup. It was HORRIBLE!
Although I hate Dell's WD hard drives with a passion, I think their CMOS setups rock.
